Yesterday was one of “those” days. The sort that feels about six years long, you can’t concentrate and there isn’t enough tea in the world. As luck would have it, yesterday was also one of these days. You wouldn’t really think that driving for half an hour in the cold, dark and wet to go and stand up for an hour before driving half an hour home again would rank overly highly on the ‘Things That Give You Energy and Make You Feel Better’ list, but it succeeded last night where roughly ten pints of tea since breakfast many eons previously had failed, so it ranks pretty highly in my book!
Last night’s rehearsal was especially good from a ‘cheer up Cath’ point of view as it happened, largely because of two things. One was having new members turn up – always nice having new people to say hello to, especially when they join Team Top Sops The other was the strategically placed Christmas tree in the room. Somehow, singing about it being the most wonderful time of the year and how we wish it could be Christmas every day so Santa Claus could come to town more often and say Merry Christmas to everyone seems even more fun when there are tinsel and tree lights in close proximity!
Last night’s rehearsal was also especially good from an ‘oo, that’s interesting, I didn’t know that’ point of view as, in addition to singing stuff (which is pretty much par for the course in most choirs I’ve been in, to be honest), we learnt stuff too (which is pretty much not). It made for quite a nice change to spend some time at the start learning about breath control, the mechanics of the voice (I’d always thought a soft palate was a collective term for pastel shades) and the many and varied ways there are of saying ‘aaaaah’ – my dentist is going to be in for SUCH a surprise when I’m next due a check up 😀
